ANDREW WHITNEY
Executive Chef and Restaurant Owner Andrew Whitney is widely known in the NYC restaurant scene for offering elevated Italian dining in a casual, approachable setting at his midtown restaurant, dell’anima. His guest experiences include monthly 5-course tasting menus along with curated wine pairings, private celebrations ranging from cocktail parties and weddings featuring passed hors d’eouvres to 350-person corporate events.
Andrew’s love of cooking and experimenting with flavors stems from his younger years spent gardening alongside his grandmothers in St. Paul, MN, and learning basic cooking skills from his grandfather who cooked in the U.S. Army. His earliest professional experience began in his teen years when he started training in industry kitchens under the supervision of his uncle, another executive chef in the family.
Andrew studied culinary arts at the Art Institute of Minnesota before relocating to New York, and graced the kitchens of several downtown dining establishments before finding his long-term home at dell’anima in 2008. Dell’anima is known for its elegant, rustic menu, offering dishes that feature fresh local produce and high quality ingredients from his trusted purveyors. Among his most popular dishes are fan favorites such as their succulent bone marrow, pollo al diavolo, and tagliatelle alla Bolognese. You can find him most weeknights behind their 22-seat chef’s counter for an up-close and personal dining experience.
